Monday Blahs??

Do you have the Monday Blahs??  It always seems when Monday rolls around ,the Monday Blahs hit.  Maybe more so today than most days.  The media is full of  weather phenomena and the news of the fires in the west is so devastating, but today we are also remember September 11, 2001.  I remember where I was when I got the news and the feelings in the days to follow.

We have so much to be thankful for each day.  We wake up in the morning, and that is wonderful in itself.  And think of all the blessings around you…..family, friends, our pets and so much more.

Always remember this date, but be thankful for what you have.  Spend your day with rainbows and sunshine.  Focus forward.  And remember faith power works wonders!!

Keep your light shining!

Today it is rainy and cold and I am blessed.  I have chores that will fill this day and give me a sense of accomplishment.

But today is also a day of prayer for all of those who have suffered and are still suffering at the hands of Mother Nature.  Hurricanes Harvey and Irma are not to be taken lightly.  If you have ever been through one of these horrific storms, you can understand.  Please keep your light shining and keep all those affected in your prayers.

I love Christmas,,,,,

We love Christmas at our house!  Wes says Santa is his hero and we must have a hundred or so to put out every year.  Some stay out year round.  The same goes with my angels.  And that says nothing of my nutcracker collection.  Fortunately we have a large house and plenty of room.  It takes us a few days to decorate, and next year we want to progress from a 9 foot tree to a 12 or maybe 15 foot tree.  Each ornament comes with a memory of Christmas past and tears are shed in memory of loved ones who have past and dear friends who aren’t close by anymore…….and then we move on.

For us, the next step is Thanksgiving, filled with family, fun and food.  Then the build up to Christmas.  Christmas was different for me this year.  The warmth of the tree was added to with a Christmas visit from my brother and family.

Lots of family love.  And we had no heat!  That was interesting.  The weather was mild and we heated the whole house with 3 space heaters and baked a lot of food, so we were plenty warm.

Chuck made his last visit and evidently needed help landing, so he glided in on Frostie’s shoulders.  Either that or he wanted to go for a ride.  It’s a lot of work keeping up with Seth over the holiday season……whew!!

Then it was Christmas morning in all of its glory.  Seth is pretty methodical when unwrapping gifts.  He has always been that way.  And Sherri had to model her new sunnies….

Even Lottie got in on the action and brought Seth her toys.  She wanted to play, too.

Another thing that made this year different was that I took vacation the week after Christmas.  It was peaceful and restful….at least after the heat was fixed…which took a new furnace on Tuesday and a return trip for repairs to the installation on Wednesday.

Saturday after New Year’s we took all the decorations down.  It took a day to take it all down and put it away versus the few days it took to decorate.  But that’s okay.

The wall looks so bare, as does the rest of the house.  But, it’s time for new beginnings, new year and so on.  There is cleaning to be done just to say the least.

The floors have been swept and mopped.  We will be cleaning up those artificial pine needles for a couple of weeks.  And everything needs dusted!  So starts the new year.  I pray yours is full of good health and prosperity.  And tons and tons of happiness!!!  That is my word for the new year.  There is ALWAYS something to look forward to…….my something is retirement!  How about you?

Get your year off to a positive start!!

What a blessing it is just to be alive and to have another year to celebrate.  Our celebration was very quiet.  We were at home with our family, TV, and sparkling grape juice.  Only my twelve year old grandson was really awake all evening.  I dosed on and off, but was awake to watch the ball drop!

We had our pork and sauerkraut New Year’s Day.  But before the meal, we shared our thankfulness for the blessings of 2016 and all the blessings we are looking forward to in 2017.  Peace and prosperity are so important to all of us, but my word for the year is “Happiness”.  Without happiness, we will not experience peace or prosperity.  Find your inner happiness and let your year unfold.  Make your mind up to be happy every day regardless of your circumstances.  Think of a happy thought and put a smile on your face for one full minute and you will see a difference almost immediately!

“Happiness” in the new year…..my wish for you!

I love the holidays!!

The holidays are a

special time of year.  There is always so much going on…..  Baking, shopping, wrapping, secrets, carols, and the wonderful spirit in our hearts!  It brings wonderful memories of Christmas past and hopes of Christmas future.  At our home, we try to celebrate Christmas in our hearts all year long.  We start the actual decorating before Thanksgiving.  And over Thanksgiving, we make tons of candy to give to all our friends.  It is a small gesture but it brings back wonderful memories of Dad making fudge.  We all would gather around waiting for it to finish cooking, and then finally the first bite!

Of course, over the years, we have expanded on that one batch of fudge.  This year it was peanut brittle, two kinds of fudge, buckeyes, peanut butter cups, mint patties….well, you get the message.

Enjoy your Christmas goodies.  We still have more to make.  Christmas eve means fresh cookies for Santa!!
