It’s official!!

YAY!!  It is official.  All of our paperwork has been blessed and we are moving.  I am here to say that packing officially sucks!  And downsizing is even worse.  I have the last of the packing to do and we start the actual move on Wednesday afternoon.  We are doing the moving ourselves, so that should be fun.  I still need to recruit some help for the lifting and I am told that the people on the mountain are always very helpful.

So why are we moving??  And where are we moving??  Let’s start with some of the “why’s”……. Here is the house we are leaving..

Yes, it is beautiful and it only took us 2 showings to have it sold.  But, it is way too big for the 2 of us….over 3200 square feet. That much space is a lot of cleaning and upkeep.  We are not getting any younger, after all.  It took 2 weeks just to load the POD with extra stuff so the house could be staged.  Currently, we are at the bottom of the mountain, just up from the Shenandoah River.

So, where are moving?  Up the mountain….into Shannondale, to be specific.  The first time I was across the mountain, I thought it was beautiful, but crazy.  After a few years of having to navigate it from time to time, I was hooked.  I have always wanted to live on the side of the mountain.  So, after much searching, we found a house near the top with beautiful views…..surely we can see to Maryland and maybe Pennsylvania.  At least it seems so.

This pic was taken in the front yard so you can see how steep it is.  With lots of rocks and trees,  it is so beautiful.  It definitely has some projects….the basement needs completely finished to include my sewing room, a “man” cave, an extra bedroom and a laundry room.  Personally, I would have liked it all on one floor, but DH wanted a basement.  And I got a lot of what I wanted, too.  It’s all about compromise sometimes.  The upstairs needs a bathroom redo and some renovations in the kitchen. We also are going to put a driveway on the uphill side of the house so there will be a level access to get into the house.  Currently, to enter the house,  you have a full flight of stairs up the side, or walk up the steep yard to the front steps in the picture.  I have no idea how long all of that will take, and we are SO counting on my brother to help us get it all done.  First things first, we have to take care of our animals, so we are fencing in the whole frontage so the Gizmo will have a place to run.  The house is on a corner lot and we don’t want our animals to wander freely into the neighbors.  Our neighbors are a lot closer than we have had in years, being as we are on a lot less land.

It has been a lot of work thus far and it is only beginning!!  This time next week, we will all be hard at work unpacking, cleaning, organizing, etc. in no specific order.  Lots to do and I am excited!

Today I will….

Do you ever set goals for yourself?  Maybe you set big ones, but how about some small daily ones?

I like to plan my tomorrow at night before I go to sleep.  But in the morning, after my prayers and thanksgiving, I like to set my daily goals.  I speak them right out to the universe, something like “Today I will write on my blog.  Today I will cook tuna for dinner.”  The goals don’t have to be big, but by planning and speaking them, you are affirming them, and willing them to happen.  And it feels so good!

Once you start with small goals, you will find it easier to have larger goals.  Any positive affirmation helps you through the things that seem tough.  Remember these guidelines and be realistic.

Set your goals, and make it happen!!  And do it every day.  Make it a habit!!  Today I will set bigger goals for myself!!

Let sleeping dogs lie…..

Do we really know what it means to let sleeping dogs lie???  I always thought it meant to leave things alone so you don’t stir up things you really don’t want to surface.

But now, I believe I know the true meaning…  This was my chair this morning….

The sweet, innocent, little puppy was sound asleep beside me in my chair.  She is almost too long now to lay beside me in the chair.  And she is definitely too long to lay on her pillows.  But back to the point.  She was sleeping.  And so peacefully.  What exactly does this mean?  First, it means peace for the other dogs, who were asleep until I decided to snap their pics…..

When Gizmo is awake, she is wide open.  She crawls on the Lottie and Kilo.  She grabs Lottie’s collar and hangs on.  She chews on their ears.  She gets under Kilo and bites at his feet…..and they tolerate it.  They play with her and Lottie barks continually.  Outside, Gizmo runs circles, literally, around them.  Then to stop, she slams into them full force.  She is goofy.  And a brat…anything the other dogs have, she takes away from them and hides…

But, when she is sleeping, and the others are sleeping, I get to work on my beads, knitting, sewing, etc.  THAT’S what it really means to let sleeping dogs lie…..

Treat yourself…..

This month is the month of Halloween, Trick or Treat and the likes.

I am not really much of a fan and have never been.  I do admire the amazing artwork of the season…..the fall colors, the beautiful weather, the pumpkin carvings and comfort food.

But during the time of trick or treat, treat yourself.  You deserve it.  It doesn’t have to be extravagant.  It just needs to make you feel special.

Buy yourself a gift.  Have a special lunch or dinner.  Get that pair of shoes you’ve been wanting.  Get a pedicure or manicure or BOTH!  Have a hot fudge sundae.  You are special and you work hard.  So treat yourself!!  You deserve the best the world has to offer, so don’t be shy about taking care of #1!!

Play a little every day!!!!

This is one of my favorite lines from one of the Star Trek movies, as a child was explaining to Data how to be more of a young human.  I play with dolls, among other things.  This one is my newest.

When she came to me last year, she didn’t look like this at all!!  So, after a trip to the PGR spa and the wonderful talents of Pat Reno, she is now so beautiful.  What did she look like before? What a huge improvement!  Pat does amazing work!  This girl is the only overall repaint I have,  I also have a face up by Pat!  More on that doll later…

Here are a few of my other dolls.  The fashions are all made by me.  And they are available on my Market Place website.  I have fashions and wigs, too!!

I have lots more dolls, too, but the “play” for me is the sewing and knitting for the girls.  I try to play a little everyday because this is relaxing for me and I enjoy it!

Cool fall days…

How do you spend your cool fall days?  Well, Gizmo likes warm puppy blankies fresh from the dryer….

I spent my morning cooking when I wasn’t doing laundry.  I am ready to change things up and make some of the wonderful comfort foods that are so good when the weather gets cooler.

First, I filled the crock pot with a ham bone, some chopped onion, and lots of green beans….yum!

Can’t wait till those are done.  Add some potatoes and we are good to go.  But what to have with them?  Growing up, bread and butter was always on the table.  And it was so yummy.  I still love it today.  But I am trying to be healthier, so I made some twisted flax bread sticks.  Full of garlic and flax, it is hopefully somewhat better for you.  They also make a great snack!

We also needed something sweet.  By we, I mean my brother and DH.  One of Wes’ favorites is scones.  I never had any I really liked because they were hard and dry.  But when we signed up for Gourmet Cupboard ( ), I decided to try my hand at making them from a mix.  OH MY!!!  How yummy!!!  They are light and moist and so tasty.  I used the mix as directed and added one apple, cut up and lightly coated with cinnamon.

Can’t wait to cut into these bad boys later this evening!

So that was half a day for me along with a trip to the post office.  Now it is time to move on and get back to my knitting.  More on that later.

Enjoy your day!!

Outlook for Monday!!

Another week has flown by and it is Monday again.  I like to start off Mondays with a positive outlook.  It makes the day better.

I love this affirmation!  I am sure it was meant to be shared.  Please feel free to use it everyday!!!

My favorite things

I love jewelry.  Most women do and I suppose I am no exception.  My favorite jewelry, other than for my hair, is a pretty bracelet.  When I started beading jewelry, I started with necklaces, but soon found that I could be very expressive with color making bracelets.

Red is my favorite color, so I had to make a red bracelet.  I have a large wrist, so making pretty bracelets is easier for me than finding the right size.  I can wear a 7 1/2″, but an 8″ is more comfortable to me.  My daughter has a tiny wrist, so 6 1/2″ is more comfortable to her.  So I customize what I make.  If you want a particular size or certain colors, I can do that!!  Just contact me!

These are all available.  My grandson, aka the monkey, sells them at our craft events.  Come see us this weekend in Martinsburg at the War Memorial Park on Saturday!!

It is finally puppy nap time!!!

All the dogs are asleep…even the Giz!!

She is sleeping with Kilo, so now it is time for me to get to work on some of my projects like knitting or beading.  Can you imagine having this in your lap and having a playful pup jump up to say “Hi!  Play with me right now!”?  Yes, that is little tiny beads and a needle and thread.

So what did I make with this pile of beads?  I made a beautiful necklace.  I have also managed to make a pink necklace and yesterday, after many attempts, a purple necklace was finished.

I love beading.  It is relaxing to me.  And I like when people buy my stuff because it speaks to them.  But right now, we are raising money to help my grandson move from the Baltimore County school system to Jefferson County, WV.  So a portion of the proceeds from any of my jewelry will go to that fund.  We also have bracelets (which are my favorite to make) and earrings.

So, here’s to the puppy naps that make this beading possible!!!  Have a blessed day!!

There’s no place like home..

I am fortunate to have lots of happy childhood memories.  Sights, sounds, smells, etc.  And even though I don’t get home real often, I made it back to my home state of Ohio this past weekend.  We went home for the wedding of my DH’s niece in Canton.

I grew up in the south eastern part of the state and one of our favorite treats was Conn’s Potato Chips…

There is nothing like tearing open a fresh bag of memories…..the smell, the taste, the crunch….well, you get the idea.  We couldn’t find the chips in Canton after visiting 3 different stores.  So, on the way home, we stopped near Cambridge and bought our 8 pounds of chips.  They are made in Zanesville so we had to get close enough to there to find them.

Why 8 pounds, you ask?  Well, my brother lives here in WV and he likes the regular the best.  My daughter lives close by and she likes the Barbeque.  My sister lives in NC and comes up for Thanksgiving, and like me, she loves them all, but I prefer the wavy.   So I had to get a variety, right?  Something for everyone.

I didn’t get to visit with my friends and family in Lancaster, but I did have a wonderful visit with my extended friends and family in the Canton area.  And the wedding was beautiful!

Can’t wait until my next visit….more Conn’s!!! Yep, there’s no place like home.
